Kayla wants to become a rape counselor/Steve makes dinner

Background: Episode starts where Steve is working out and Kayla walks in--they kiss. She has been going
through counseling and filed for divorce from Jack . She and Steve are later shocked when Jack refuses to
grant Kayla a divorce. Steve tells him off and tells him to leave them alone--but Jack promises he isn't through
with them. Still Kayla and Steve were both relieved that Kayla had come to a point where she felt she could
move forward. Steve says it killed him to feel Kayla slipping away from him, he realized she is the most important
thing in his life. Kayla she wants to counsel/help other rape victims and has to go to New York for a class that lasts
a week. Steve doesn't want to be apart from her right now--especially now. Kayla says that the class, and helping
others in the same situation, is important to her.

Kayla asks if Steve understands, and he says he does, adding "I love you for it."

(they have dinner and dance & kiss)

Then the scene, short but sweet, begins:

Steve: "I'm going to miss you"

Kayla: "I'm going to miss you too, but it's only a week"

Steve: "That's a long time...it doesn't make sense, for a man who has been alone most of his life to miss somebody
the way I'm going to miss you. Even a day is too much..."

Kayla: "I'm surprised you feel that way... because I feel that way too"

Steve: "You know something? You'r really incredible. I don't know too many people who would go through what you
went through and then turn it around and use it to help other people. I feel so proud. I never loved anybody like I love you."

Stefan and Katherine at Serenity

Background: Stefan and Katherine have just made love at Serenity

Kat: So, what do you think of contentment?

Stefan: It's a novel..and not unpleasant sensation...

Kat: Why are you always so formal?

Stefan: I don't know how not to be... does it bother you?

Kat: No--it's part of your charm. You can be as formal as you like, as long as you don't push me away again

Stefan: Katherine...I've done terrible things to protect those I love. I will do more, and worse...but I will never
intentionally hurt you again.

Kat: Even for my own good?

Stefan: Even then...

Kat: That's what I wanted to hear

Stefan and Katherine--New Year's 1998

Stefan gives her a small jewelry box

Stefan: This is for you

Kat: I thought you said I would be the one giving you good news tonight

Stefan: Thats what I am hoping your answer will be

Katherine opens the box to find a beautiful brooch

Kat: it's beautiful

(they kiss)

Kat: It almost feels wrong to be this happy... after everything that's happened to us, to Nikolas

Stefan: I've come to realize that what I want in this house is happiness...for Nikolas, for you. Yes, you, in this
house Katherine. That will be my happiness. Stay with me tonight, and every night. Light up this musty old place
and make it...make it a home. Is something wrong?

Kat: No. Everything's right. Everything is finally right....

Stefan at Natasha's Grave (and talk with Katherine afterward)

Background: Alexis has faked evidence to make Stefan believe that Katherine is his sister "Natasha"; Alexis thinks
Katherine is just a golddigger who is no good for Stefan. This scene takes place when Stefan realizes that
"Natasha's" grave is empty and that Katherine is his sister.

Stefan: "You know I was so grateful to have been born second. I thought it meant that I would be free...then I
realized that I wanted power more than freedom. I knew what it would cost I knew that everything that was dear
to me, everything that I loved would never bear my name.  I resigned myself to that, until the night I shot Katherine.
I wronged an innocent and she forgave me--she believed in me! She was my last chance to be, more than a Cassadine."

Alexis: "You are"

Stefan: "I still WANT her. I STILL want her, even knowing of our true relationship, I still want her. My sister is simply..
another thing that I love and can never possess. So I suppose Katherine has finally taken her rightful place in my life"

Later-- Katherine tells Stefan she's fallen in love with him. He believes he has just uncovered evidence that she is his
sister (thanks to the fake evidence by Alexis) and has been distant with her. She asks him about why he has been distant...

Stefan: "Katherine from the very first moment that I saw you, I felt that you were a part of me.We are one. And not just
since we met in Port Charles, but from the very hour of your birth"

Katherine: "Oh, so thats it!"

Stefan: "I don't understand"

Katherine: "Are you purposely waiting for tomorrow for us to be together?"

Stefan: "Tomorrow? what is tomorrow?"

Katherine: "It's my birthday! And don't pretend you don't remember"

Stefan: "Your birthday....of course I remember. I have been thinking quite a bit about your birthday lately"

Katherine:  "Thats whats holding you back isn't it? You want to make my birthday extra special"

Stefan:  "Every day is special with you Katherine. Every minute...but your birthday, yes that will be something to remember"

Katherine: "And something you won't forget, I promise you"

Katherine's Birthday & the Pearl Story

Katherine and Stefan meet up at Spoon Island.

K: "You know you've solved one of the big mysteries of my life...."

S: "I dont understand" (nervous)

K: "Don't look so serious, its a good thing. You I never really got birthdays...you're supposed to wake up and
somehow feel different because it's a special day? But I never felt special. SO what is it? How have I suddenly
become important?

S: You always were Katherine.

K: Don't look so sad, its not allowed

S: I'm not sad, I am... frustrated. I'd just like to take you away and show you the world.

K: You can do that tommorrow...right now I just want to be in this lovely garden with you beside me

S: Theres something I need to tell you

K: Something good?

S: Something true...

S: I thought I could make this one day perfect for you, but I realized I don't have the power

K: Yes you do...tell me something true.

S: The truth I want to tell you is in the form of a story...it's a parable from the gospel of Matthew. I heard it first as a child from
a governess who was fond of bible stories and would embellish them with her own colorful touches. I always remembered her
story of the merchant who sees a pearl of astonishing beauty and longs to possess it. He knows that in order to buy it he will
have to sell everything he owns. But he realizes that the world and all it has to offer mean nothing to him if he can't have the one
thing his soul craves. He sells his possessions and is left a poor man. But the pearl and happiness are his.

K: That's a beautiful story, but I think you're telling me something I don't understand

S: You're right

K: Whatever it is, say it

S: I can't say it, I have to show you...

(Stefan hands Katherine a small jewelry box)

S: Its for you Katherine, please take it..are you afraid to open it (she is hesitating)

K: Its beautiful

(Theres a ring inside the box--Katherine isn't sure what Stefan means/Stefan apologizes when he realizes she thinks this
was a proposal)
