Background: This scene aired shortly before Kayla was to go on trial for
Marina’s murder.
Kayla is very pregnant, she is due to give birth soon. Steve and Kayla are
in bed together
sharing a romantic moment before the chaos of the trial ensues. A lot
of women feel the
way that Kayla feels when they are pregnant. They don’t feel attractive
and they need
reassurance that they really are. Stephen and Mary Beth just look so comfortable
with each
other in this scene. Just another example of how natural the acting is, nothing
overdone or
underdone. I got the sense in this scene as I have with many others that
I was peaking into
a real conversation...
Steve:Oh baby,let’s never get out of bed huh
Kayla:<sighs>Okay
Steve:<sighs>okay...I love you so much
Kayla:I love you too
Kayla turns away from Steve and has a look of distress on her face
Steve:What’s the matter? Is something wrong?
Kayla: no
Steve: huh,come on,tell me
Kayla: I can’t
Steve kisses Kayla’s shoulder
Steve: Yes you can now don’t start off like this baby,talk to me
Kayla: I’m not sure what it is
Steve: Maybe we shouldn’t have made love
Kayla: No, I wanted to, It’s just…
Steve: What?
Kayla: Did you really want me?
Steve: Oh sweetness, are you kidding me? Huh?
Kayla: I’m not to much woman for you huh?
Steve: Oh baby baby,no, you know better than that. Come on.
Kayla: (sarcastic) Oh right, I’ve never been more beautiful or desirable
Steve: (serious) That’s right
Steve touches Kayla’s belly
Steve: This is a baby you got in here sweetness, it’s our baby and this
baby
didn’t get there by itself,ya know, you had some help now didn’t
you.
Kayla: Yeah, but you look the same before,during and after
Steve: So only one of us can be pregnant
Kayla: That’s what’s not fair.
Steve: You're damn right it’s not fair. That’s why I’m jealous.
Kayla: of what?
Steve: Of you getting to carry the baby, feel it growing inside, kicking,
you get to feel
it being born. I’m just along for the ride,look at me here
Kayla: I never thought about it that way
Steve: Well, it’s time you start. When I tell you,that you're beautiful,
I mean from the
inside out. You understand?
Kayla: Alright,you’ve convinced me
Steve: For how long?
Kayla: Five minutes
Steve:(imitates Kayla) Five minutes. You're cute you know that.
Kayla: I’m hungry
Steve: You hungry? Okay,get dressed
Kayla: Wait, where are you going?
Steve: It’s a surprise
Kayla: Wait,wait,wait, kiss me first

Steve and Kayla On The Run/Steve Wishes On A
Star - Aired June 15, 1987

This scene starts right after Steve and Kayla were forced to leave the
"honeymoon
hideaway" as shots rang out (just as they were starting to make love). They
are now
hiding in the woods with Justin and Adrienne. Steve is alone looking out
at the stars
when Kayla comes up behind him. She says hi, and he says it as well, kind
of
dejected.
K: Beautiful night, isn't it?
S: Yeah. It isn't anything like I thought it would turn out though.
K: Me either. But we're still a long way from Los Angeles.
S: I don't know why, Sweetness, we just seem to have a hard time getting together, don't we?
K:Yeah.
S:What do you think that means?
K: I guess it just means that when we finally do get together it'll be wonderful.
(At this point, they kiss, then hug. His look is like he'll never let
her go
--he's at home in her arms.)
S: Baby.
K: I guess I should get back.
S: Yea, me too.
Kayla starts to walk away, and it's obvious neither is ready to let go.
Their fingers
finally separate, she leaves, then
Steve turns back to the stars and says: "First star I see tonight."
Once again, he doesn't really see a happy ending, but wants one. It's Kayla
with faith
enough for both of them.

Valentine's Day 1990 - Chosen by Liz
(The morning before Kayla's trial--accused of murdering Marina)
S: Where are you? Where are you? (Laughs), ok, over here now
K: (wakes up, confused) Steve...?
S: Good morning baby (kisses her belly)
K:What are you doing?
S: Playing with the tiny one, hide and go seek
K: (smiles) Right before the crack of dawn, it's not even born yet. What time is it?
(looks at alarm clock and panics)
K: Steve, Why did you let me sleep so late?
S: I wanted to play...
K: Ya but the trial is this morning
S: Let them wait
K: I can't do that, you know I can't do that
S: Hey, I've got something very important to take care of today
(points to his lips) Come on...
K: (kisses him, wondering what he is up to)
S: Happy Valentine's day. (smiles)
K: (Smiles)..Steve
they kiss

Jumps back in bed with a present, just as Kayla is trying to get out of bed
S: Noooo. nope, nope, nope, nope
Shows her a heart shaped gift box
K: Steve, I have to get up....
S: Not until you open this....
K: Come on, I really have to get up
S: Hey, what's the problem?
K: It's very sweet of you but I really have to...
S: Hey, Do you have something against Valentine's day all of a sudden?
K: No...
S: No?? No? Let me just check this out (puts his mouth on the belly, talks to her belly)
Hey do you think your mama should have a Valentine's gift on Valentine's day?
(squeaks as if the baby is talking) "Yes".
Kayla rests her face in his hair, then strokes his hair.
S: That was a yes
K: I can't argue with both of you
S: Come on, open it
K: Steve...it's a baby bracelet..(whispers) It's beautiful.
S: Mmm hmm.. see we can put the baby's name and birthdate in there
K: Names, we haven't thought of the names yet
S: Don't worry, I've been working on it
K: You have?
S: Yes, let's see here. Here we go, I got the list.
(pulls one out of his back pocket)
K: (reads the list) Little Walter, Levi, Babalu...
S: Babalu Johnson (laughs)
K: Lightning?? (laughs)
S: Lightning and Howlin'. Howlin' Johnson.
K: What kinds of names are these?
S: They're blues names baby...(laughs). Now if it's a girl we can name her Big Mama.Big Mama Johnson.
(they both laugh)
K: Holds his face. You know, you're the only person who could make me laugh today.
S: So sweet. Tell you what I want you to do. When you go to court today,
you hold onto this, and think
about all the good things we've got
K: (whispers) We do have a lot of good things don't we?
S: Yes ma'am.
(they kiss and hug)

Kayla Comes Home--Steve arranges a surprise for her-Chosen by Liz
Aired January 25, 1990
Steve and Kayla are back home, upstairs in a hallway by the window.
She has just arrived after being kidnapped by Victor (who
wanted Loretta's diary and thought Steve had the key to open it).
Steve and Kayla had also been estranged due to Marina; but they
were now working things out. Steve has had a surprise planned
all day for Kayla, and had to stall her from coming home
(to do so, he arranged a check-up with Neil Curtis, and an extended
dinner at Wing's).
K: Finally...You don't know how happy I am to be here...
(Jo comes out of one of the rooms, shocked to see Kayla and Steve are home)
Kayla wonders why Jo is there; Jo makes up an excuse saying she was cleaning
up the place,
knowing Steve must have left it a mess, and Kayla was coming home. She hugs
Kayla
, and leaves. Before leaving she says to Steve, "It's all ready"
K: Wait wait wait a second, What was that?
S: What?
K: What did Jo just say?
S: You didn't hear?
K: No
S: Good...
K: Steve
S: What?
K: You're doing it again
S: It?
K: Ya, you're making that face
S: Oh, you mean that innocent face? (puts on the innocent face)
K: Ya, only you're looking guiltier by the second
S: Maybe that's because I am...
K: Ok enough of this, what's going on?
S: Oh now baby, I can't tell you. You've got to do a little detective work
if you
want to close this case.
K: Alright lets start with Jo, what was she doing here?
S: You heard her, she said she was here to clean up after me. You know what
its like
when a man gets alone, by himself, in a place like this, this is a big place...he
starts wearing
the same clothes every day...eating beans out of a can...all kinds of stuff
K: In a bedroom?
S: Why else would she be in there?
K: I don't know, I'm going to find out
S: Well, ok...
Kayla opens the door of the bedroom, to find it has been turned into a nursery for the baby
K: You did all this for me?
S: For us. For you. And me, and our baby.
K: Look at all this
S: You know those happy times you were talking about? We're going to have a lot of those.
We're going to fill this big place up with kids, and noise and love...There will be a lot of love
here. And when the kids grow up and they're off on their own, it will just be you and me
again here. And I will love you even more, if that's possible, because I love you so much.
(Steve is teary eyed).
They hug

Background info:
Steve joined Kayla to see the ultrasound of their baby
and she doesn't know he was there until afterwards.
This dialogue is from the scene following...
S: Kayla, when I heard about the test I just couldn't
stay away. I had to be here with you. I thought you
wanted me to be here didn't you, I mean, you're not
really mad at me are you?
K: I don't know. I'm just sorry that its come to this,
that you have to sneak around now.
S: It doesn't have to be this way.
K: It shouldn't be this way.
S: No I know it shouldn't be this way, I know that
it's my fault that it is this way. But I'm doing my
damndest (sp?) to make things right. I just have to
know that what I'm doing is going to make a
difference. What about the baby Kayla? I mean when the
baby's born its going to need both its parents.
K: That's not fair.
S: Well then, what about us? Sweetness, we still need
each other. Maybe more than ever.

S: So, say something... tell me something.
K: I wish I could say I forgive you and that I know
everything's going to be alright.
S: Forgive me and everything will be alright baby, we
can make everything alright.
K: No, we can't. Things are never going to be the
same. If I come back to you...
S: What do you mean IF?
K: IF. I can't be the same. I can never be that
trusting again. And there's a part of us that's gone.
Marina's caught in the trap (not sure about this
line... can anyone work it out??)
S: Kayla, I was always afraid that my past would hurt
you like this. But, I love you.
K: You lied to me, over, and over again.
S: I was trying to protect you, that's all. I was
trying to keep all the bad things away from you. You
got to believe baby, that no matter what I was, or
what I did in the past, what we feel for each other
now is enough to get us through this, get us back
together. You gotta believe that.
K: I want to.
S: Well that's all you need.
K: No. I need time. To think about how I feel.
S: Ok, then you're thinking then. That's good, then
you not just ready to let everything go.
K: I just wish...
S: What do you wish baby? Tell me.
K: I wish I could be as hopeful about this as you are.
S: I can't help but be hopeful after what we just saw
on that little tv over there. That was our baby.
K: I, I need to get dressed.
S: No, no baby come on... you're gonna throw me outta
here?
Kayla has her hands across her stomach, Steve leans
down moves them so he can touch her tummy.
S: Baby, can I? He bends down and kisses her
stomach... I love you both so much. I love you.

Background info:
Duke and Steve had had a fight. Duke hit Kayla, then Steve pulled a gun
on Duke. In the end Duke left and Andriane, Steve and Kayla convinced Jo
to go to a women's shelter. Later at the clinic Adrianne told Kayla she
would lock up so Kayla and Steve could go have a night out.
They enter the Cheatin' Heart:
S: Jimbo! I told her she can go anyplace in the world today, tonight -
This is our night. She wants to come to this dump.
K: Well, I, uh, got an urge to shoot a couple of tables. That's all
S: Oh you got an urge to... shoot a couple of tables?
K: Yeah. You know a game or tow of pool helps you relax a little bit. So
how 'bout it?
S: Look, look, Kayla, don't ever try to hustle a hustler, baby. Alright?
Something tells me you've been getting in a little practice time
K: Well, what if I have? Like I said, it's relaxing.
S: Change of pace from the needle point?
K: Do you want to take me on or not?
S: Any time, baby. (snaps his fingers) Jimbo!
J: YO!
S: The stick.
K: Well, I have to warn you, um, I'm pretty good.
S: I'm warned
K: I mean I'm really, I'm really pretty good
S: I believe you
K: Well, I just didn't want you to say I hadn't told you. You know.
S: Can't say that.
K: Yeah, well, you want to break?
S: No. Ladies first.
K: (taps the table with her hand) OK. What do you say we make this just
a little bit more interesting?
S: (sighs) I'm already interested.
K: Now I'm not talking about a little penny anti here
S: Penny anti?
K: Yeah, I'm talkin' about a big bet.
S: OK. That's the way I like to bet
K: A buck-a-ball
S: A buck-a-ball? Where'd you learn to talk like that?
K: What? The stakes too high for you? What?
S: No, it's just I'm not interested in money.
K: I think you're afraid to bet. I think you're afraid I'm going to beat
the pants off of you.
S: (devilish look in his eye) Oh, that's the last thing I'm afraid of
baby. I just don't like the stakes.
K: Oh? What do you want to play for?
S: (with a lustful look in his eye) Kisses. Let's play for kisses.
K: (confident) You're on.
S: (gestures to the table) It's all yours.
K: Rack, please, sir.
S: (go back and gets the rack) Oh, yeah. Careful now you don't choke.
K: Outta my way. (she hits the break) Well, now there's a break.

Kayla is getting ready to make a shot. The whole bar is watching them play.
S: You gotta make this one baby.
K: Don't try to psych me out now. This is my kinda shot.
She lines up and hits the ball as it's rolling
S: Yeah, come on now! (whistles)
The ball goes in and the crowd goes wild. She gives him a playful push.
K: Pretty good, huh?
J: Hey! Way to go Kayla!!
S: How come you don't get excited like that when I make a shot, huh?
J: I'm afraid you're not quite as pretty as she is.
K: Hahaha
S: You're right about that. Come on, Come on. Keep going, baby. I'm
getting anxious.
K: Fifteen ball
S: (to the crowd) Don't cheer so much over there
K: In the side pocket
She misses the shot and Steve makes the buzzer sound.
K: Alright, alright. Your shot. Go right ahead
S: OK. I'll go right ahead. (lines up the shot) Three ball in the corner
K:You callin' it?
S: I'm callin' it. (Makes the shot, but he's the only one to cheer)
WooHooHooHoo!!
K: (disappointed) I guess you win
S: According to my calculations (stops and looks at the crowd) Come on
cheer for me!!
They make disgruntled noises
K: Now come on - this time he won anyway
S: You owe me five.... ten kisses
K: (dismayed) Ten??
S: (Not happy that's she's questioning him) Ten. You want to check my
arithmetic, here?
K: No, I believe you.
S: Pay up, baby.
K: (looks surprised) Right now?
S: Right now.
K: (looks around at all the people) Here?
S: Right now, here.
K: (embarrassed) Oh, I don't know.
S: Come on. You don't want all these people to think that you're a
weltcher, now do you?
K: (offended) A Brady never weltches.
S: A Brady never weltches. Well, come on, baby, here I am.
J: He's got you on this one Kayla
S: Come on
K: (embarrassed and laughing) Well... One
S: One. That's one
K: That's two.... three
S: Keep 'em comin' baby. Now give me three
K: No. I already gave you three. Don't get me all mixed up. This is
four.... five.... six..... seven....
S: (breathing heavy as each kiss has become more intense than the last
one) Come on, baby, five.
K: Eight.... Nine....
S: This is the best game I ever won.
K: You know what? This is the best game I ever lost.
S: One more
K: One more
The last kiss is a long intense one with the crowd cheering them
on.

Background - Scene takes place just after Eggs and Beer and a round
of pool.
Steve walks Kayla home to the loft and they are standing at the door.
Kayla - Are you just going to stand there all night?
Steve - No, I'm shipping out.
Kayla - Steve don't go. You don't have anywhere else to go do you? I could
make some coffee or how 'bout a beer with a lady?
Steve - Thats a tempting offer, maybe some offer.
Kayla - So then you'll stay?
Steve - Maybe some other time.
Kayla - When?
Steve - You're going to have to check with my secretary baby, I don't know
Kayla - What about now?
Steve - You don't quit do you?
Kayla - I could fix you a sandwich or something if your hungry?
Steve - I'm hungry baby, but not for food.
(Kayla is blushing, Steve looks her up and down)
Steve: Ohhh, you can dish it out but you can't take it.
Kayla - I don't know what you're talking about.
Steve - You just turned about sixteen shades of red baby. You try to act
so
streetwise but that sweet little blush always comes through, you're just
too sweet
Kayla... I can't be the man to spoil that.
Kayla - Go ahead and go if you're afraid to stay.
Steve - Sure baby, thats a trick you play on a kid.
Kayla - Or someone who acts like one.
Steve - I'm not afraid, but you should be.
Kayla - Of What?
Steve - Of this.
They embrace into a kiss
Kayla - Still want to go?
Steve - You want me to go?
Kayla - No, I don't think you want to go either.
Steve - Kayla, I'm tryin to do something halfway right here and you're not making it easy for me.
Kayla - Turn around and look at me.
Steve - I can't... you'r e, you're just too damn beautiful
Kayla moves to the front of Steve
Kayla - You say you wants what's right, this is right.
They embrace in another kiss
Steve - ok, I guess I can stay for a little while.
Kayla - I will make something hot to drink and you can start a fire.
Steve - Thought we already did that
Steve goes to the fire, Kayla to the counter, she turns the radio on and
we
hear "If your heart comes out tonight" playing. She gently turns her head
back,
Steve is standing there staring. Kayla walks toward Steve ever so slowly.
They both gaze into each others eyes. Kayla gently puts her arms around Steve
and
Steve gently takes Kayla's face into his hands. They both kiss tenderly.....
....And then the phone rings URGHGH!!
